My wife and I recently (June 2007) bought a house from David and Sherry Cox (they were the selling agents as well as the owners of the property). Their daughter Reshal (Cox) Montizaan was our buying agent. The house we purchased was previously owed by Reshal and then Sherry and David (not sure how this all came about). When we first looked at the house we noticed it had a small pond in the back yard (one of the one that's popular on the home improvement show these days). The pond was NOT in working order. When we decided to put an offer on the house we stated in the offer that the pond would have to be fixed (it needed a repaired/new liner and some cosmetic work and we were not sure about the pump). During out final walk through it seemed as though everything was fixed, but the pond was not fully operational (no water and no working pump due to electrical issues). Sherry and David (and Reshal) assured us that the pond had been fixed and everything worked; so we went ahead with the planned closing that afternoon. Well a fews days after we moved in we had a nice heavy rain. I walked out the back door and noticed that the pond liner was not holding water. I then lifted the liner to discover a large puddle of water under the liner. Then I looked more closely at the liner and I noticed that it had not been fixed nor repaired. Someone had just rearranged the liner and stuffed the bad sections into areas that were virtually unnoticeable. Needless to say my wife and I were very disappointed. We then called the Cox's and discussed the problem, they acted surprised and indicated they would have someone out to take a look. Well after about 4 months of periodic calls (we called about twice month), the Cox's finally had someone come out and look at the problem. The Cox's repair man said that we needed a new liner and he also suggested that with our small child and dog we might want to consider filling the pond in with dirt. My wife and I discussed the two options with David Cox and he said he would have someone else come out and give estimates on both fixing and filling the pond (we indicated that we would rather have it filled but he wanted to make sure he paid for the cheapest option and then would we be responsible for the rest). Well we have not had anyone come out (to our knowledge) and estimate the costs nor have we saw an written estimate, but someone came out to our house while we were out-of-town during Thanksgiving week 2007 and removed the liner and most of the surrounding material. This was done without our knowledge or approval. It is what we wanted done, but the job NEEDS TO BE FINISHED. It's been over since moths and we have been calling repeatedly. Three large boulders and a large hole remain. The Cox's refuse to talk with us about this. David will not answer the phone nor return calls. Sherry answers occasionally and acts like this is not her problem and we should stop "harassing her" (grotesquely overstated by her) and try to contact her husband (David) who doesn't answer the phone. They claim to be the "Family Realtors," but they have caused me and my family nothing but a headache over this issue.

  • Part of my family is moving to AL, requiring both renters and auto ins. based in the state. Both staff members to whom I spoke (Nina & Beth), had willing and flexible attitudes while answering my many questions, explaining the advantages of the driving history our long relationship with Allstate provided, and entertaining the special payment options I requested. My family is looking forward to dealing with them over the long term.

  • Diana and her team are awesome! I called the local office and they got me a new policy at a lower rate with more coverage. The crazy thing is, I had USAA before! I’m definitely glad I switched over. Thanks guys!

  • We were brand new to Alabama and after seeing Matt Curtis Real Estate billboards all over, we checked out the reviews and chose them as our real estate agent. Can’t go wrong with 5 stars, right? It was a great choice because our agent, Amanda Dixon, was wonderful. She was extremely welcoming, accommodating, and knowledgeable and made the home buying process a lot easier to handle. We felt more like we were dealing with a friend than a stranger, which is exactly what we needed in this unfamiliar location. The rest of the staff at Matt Curtis Real Estate were polite, helpful, and quickly available to answer questions. If we need to buy a home again, or sell, we would love to work with this team and would recommend them to anyone else!
